Why I cancelled All-White Party in Lagos-UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu

Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, has announced the cancellation of his annual TOE All-White Party, dedicating the moment to the memory of the six workers who died in the September fire outbreak at Afriland Towers, Lagos.

The tragic incident, which occurred at the high-rise building on Broad Street, shocked the business community and left several families devastated.

In a message shared via his Instagram story on Tuesday, Elumelu said he and his wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu, reached the difficult decision to suspend this year’s December 23 celebration, noting that the period calls for reflection and compassion rather than festivity.

“We’ve received countless messages about our annual TOE All-White Party scheduled for December 23. Your enthusiasm means a great deal to us. But following the recent fire incident that claimed precious lives, Awele and I have decided to cancel the party this year. This season will be devoted to remembering and honouring those we lost. They remain forever in our hearts,” he wrote.

Elumelu added that the traditional gathering will resume on December 23, 2026. He thanked the public for their understanding and extended his Christmas wishes to friends and well-wishers.
