No fewer than two people lost their lives, while several others were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident on Saturday at Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. and involved a fully loaded articulated truck that overturned and collided with several vehicles.
According to LASTMA, the vehicles affected included a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota RAV4 SUV with registration number LSR-618-HS, and two loaded interstate Mazda buses with number plates APP-835-XY and JJJ-538-YE, all registered in Lagos State.
In a statement, the agency confirmed the casualties, saying: “A multiple-vehicle crash involving a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, an SUV (RAV4), and two loaded interstate Mazda buses has been reported on Kara Bridge inward Mowe. Two fatalities were recorded, while several persons sustained injuries.”
LASTMA noted that all injured victims were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Its traffic officers, known as PAPA OSCAR, were promptly deployed to the scene to control traffic, while recovery trucks worked to clear the damaged vehicles.
The authority added that recovery operations were ongoing, resulting in heavy traffic congestion stretching back to the Secretariat area and towards River Valley and Kosoko.
Motorists were advised to avoid the Ojodu-Berger axis or prepare for significant traffic delays as clearance efforts continue.
