An explosion occurred in Maiduguri on Monday evening, targeting the Monday Market and the entrance gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) shortly after the breaking of fast (iftar) at about 7:20 p.m.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, in a post on his X handle.
According to him, security operatives and emergency responders were immediately deployed to the affected locations.
“Following reports of a suspected explosion at Maiduguri Monday Market and UMTH gate at about 7:20 PM, joint security operatives and emergency responders have been deployed. The Police EOD Unit, Base 13 Maiduguri, is on the ground,” he said.
Daso urged residents to remain calm and stay away from the affected areas while authorities carry out further assessments.
