Former United States Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump over the escalating conflict with Iran.
In a statement posted on her X account, Harris condemned the US and Israel strike against Iran.
She accused President Trump of dragging the United States into a war that Americans do not support.
Harris declared her strong opposition against a regime-change war in Iran.
She warned that US troops are being placed at risk over what she called the president’s “war of choice.”
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want. Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice,” she wrote.
Her comment follows Trump’s confirmation that US and Israeli joint forces carried out strikes on Iranian targets. Iran responded with retaliatory attacks on American military bases in the Middle East.
The attacks and retaliation have heightened tension in the oil-rich region.
Amid the rising tensions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed there are signs that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, may have been killed in a joint US-Israeli strike.
However, as of the time of filing this report, Iranian authorities have not confirmed the death of Khamenei.
