President Bola Tinubu has expressed shock and sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held captive by bandits in Katsina State.
DAILY POST reports that the retired senior military officer was abducted by armed men and later died in captivity.
In a statement issued by the State House on Saturday, Tinubu described the incident as a tragic reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting parts of the country.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed shock over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.
“General Abubakar, after a distinguished career in the military, retired a few years ago. He was on his way to his hometown when the hoodlums captured him,” the statement said.
According to the presidency, the late officer, who served the Nigerian Armed Forces with distinction before his retirement, was travelling to his hometown when he was intercepted and abducted by the gunmen.
The statement further disclosed that Abubakar’s wife was kidnapped alongside him and remains in the custody of the abductors, heightening concerns over her safety and the worsening insecurity in the region.
