United States Congressman Riley M. Moore has reacted to a recent deadly attack carried out by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Adamawa State.
The terrorists reportedly admitted to killing 27 Christians and burning at least 10 houses during the attack, which occurred in February.
According to an X post by security expert Brant Philip, the terrorists, while claiming responsibility for the attack, also renewed threats against Christians in Nigeria. The group reportedly told Christians to “either pay the jizyah tax, convert to Islam, or be killed,” describing it as a “fair deal.”
Reacting in a post on X, Moore lamented that the assailants were forcing Christians to convert to Islam or face death.
The lawmaker called on the Nigerian government to urgently take stronger action to address the situation.
He wrote, “Christians continue to be explicitly targeted for their faith in Nigeria.
“ISIS-West Africa is slaughtering Christians and telling other Christians they must convert or die.
“In our report to the White House, we made it clear that increased American support is contingent on the Nigerian government doing more to defend Christians. Now is the time for Abuja to step up.”
