1. Panic has gripped thousands of Nigerians working in the United Kingdom on Certificate of Sponsorship or Skilled Worker visas over the new regulations announced by the British government. The UK government, in its efforts to control immigration, has removed over 100 jobs, including skilled worker roles, from CoS eligibility.
2. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has urged the Supreme Court to compel Osun State Government to refund seven months’ local government allocations to the Minister of Finance. The request was contained in a response filed through Fagbemi’s counsel, Chief Akin Olujimi SAN, to a suit instituted by the government via its attorney general.
3. President Bola Tinubu on Friday asked electricity generation companies to grant the Federal Government more time to “do verification and validation of the numbers” on longstanding liabilities the power market says it is owed. He also gave anticipatory approval for a N4tn bond programme to plug the sector’s liquidity hole.
4. The internal crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party took a new dimension on Friday as the party’s National Executive Committee dissolved the National Working Committee led by suspended National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, over the leadership tussle. The resolution was reached at an emergency NEC meeting held in Abuja and presided over by the party’s National Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Biu.
5. Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have arrested a woman for allegedly adulterating yam flour (elubo isu) with harmful colouring agents. The arrest was disclosed on Friday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X handle.
