Actor Sam Neill, best known for his role in the Jurassic Park franchise, has died at the age of 78.
Neill’s death comes months after he revealed that he was cancer-free following treatment for a form of blood cancer.
According to his family, the New Zealand actor was taken to a hospital in Sydney on Monday before his death.
In a statement shared on Neill’s Instagram page, his family described his passing as “sudden and unexpected.”
They said the veteran actor remained cancer-free and died “surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.”
The family added that further details would be released in the coming days and appealed for privacy as they mourn their loss.
“We ask that our privacy is respected as we navigate this immeasurable loss,” the statement said.
