An improvised explosive device (IED) believed to have been planted by suspected bandits detonated early Wednesday along the Gusau–Funtua highway, triggering panic among commuters.
Security analyst Bakastine disclosed the development in a post on Wednesday, noting that the explosion occurred between Kuceri and Magazu villages in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to reports, the device went off when a fully loaded commercial trailer conveying cement drove over it. The blast caused widespread fear among residents and motorists using the busy route.
Community leaders and residents have since urged security agencies to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence operations along the highway to forestall further attacks.
They also offered prayers for the victims and appealed for sustained efforts to restore peace and stability in the area.
