A former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has dismissed as false reports claiming that former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, is set to marry former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami.
Ahmad described the reports as outright lies, stressing that the claim that the former First Lady planned to marry one of her late husband’s close allies was completely unfounded.
The clarification followed the circulation of a purported wedding invitation card on social media, which alleged that Pantami would soon wed Mrs Buhari.
Reacting via a Facebook post, Ahmad urged the public to disregard the rumour, noting that it was not worthy of serious attention. However, he said it became necessary to address the issue because of its continued spread.
“The news that some people are sharing that Hajiya Aisha Buhari has agreed to marry Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami is a lie,” Ahmad wrote. “There is no truth in it whatsoever.”
The rumour surfaced less than a year after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at a clinic in London. His remains were later flown to Nigeria, where he was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with full military honours.
