Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is unwell and “managing himself,” linking the allegation to the president’s sudden trip out of the country.
Sowore also alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is “practically dying,” raising concerns about the health of Nigeria’s political leadership.
The activist made the claims on Sunday while reacting to Tinubu’s departure from Nigeria. The president, who spent the Christmas and New Year holidays in Lagos State, travelled to Europe on Sunday.
In a statement, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the president is also scheduled to proceed to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates for an official visit. According to Onanuga, Tinubu will attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
However, Sowore, in a post on X, alleged that Tinubu’s trip was health-related. He wrote that while illness itself is not a crime, it is “callous to use a country as health insurance for sick leaders,” questioning why Nigeria is being governed by leaders he described as unwell.
