The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked circulating images of a purported N5,000 banknote featuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the claim as false.
Reports had alleged that the apex bank released a sample of the redesigned currency, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms. The images quickly went viral, with Nigerians expressing mixed views and debating the authenticity of the supposed note.
Reacting on Thursday via its official X handle, the CBN dismissed the claim, urging the public to disregard the misleading content.
“This content is fake. Let the public be guided,” the bank stated.
The clarification follows a similar incident in 2025, when the CBN refuted reports claiming the introduction of N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes to ease cash transactions, insisting the information was untrue.
