Naira slides for ninth straight day against US dollar, loses N37.85

The Nigerian naira extended its losing streak against the United States dollar on Wednesday, marking nine consecutive days of depreciation at the official foreign exchange market.

According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Naira weakened further to N1,387.09 per dollar on Wednesday, compared to N1,384.29 recorded on Tuesday.

This represents a day-to-day decline of N2.80 for the local currency.

Overall, the Naira has fallen by N37.85 since February 23, 2026, when the latest depreciation streak began at the official market.

At the parallel market, however, the Naira remained unchanged at N1,390 per dollar on Wednesday, based on checks with Bureau de Change operators in Abuja. The rate had stood at about N1,370 nine days earlier.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s external reserves continued to rise, reaching $49.88 billion as of March 3, 2026.
