Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has delivered a bold verdict on the Premier League title race, insisting that Arsenal’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Leeds United has effectively secured the championship for the Gunners ahead of Manchester City.
Speaking after the win, which extended Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to seven points, Merson praised the significance of the result, especially given Leeds’ recent form.
“Leeds United is a difficult place to go right now. They have been playing the best football of their season,” Merson told Sky Sports.
According to the ex-Gunner, the scale and timing of the victory could prove decisive in the title run-in.
“Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Leeds United won them the Premier League,” he said. “Even if Manchester City manages a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, they would still be six points behind Arsenal.”
Merson’s comments underline the growing belief that Arsenal are firmly in control of the title race as the season approaches its final stages.
