The family of late Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd) has dismissed claims by the Katsina State Government that the former military officer died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
DAILY POST reports that Abubakar, who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State, died on Saturday after spending about two weeks in the custody of his kidnappers.
While announcing the retired general’s death, the Katsina State Government stated that he died a natural death in captivity, attributing it to complications arising from diabetes and high blood pressure.
However, speaking in an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW), one of the deceased’s sons, Isyaka Rabe, disputed the government’s account, insisting that his father had no history of either diabetes or hypertension.
According to him, reports suggesting that the retired general died as a result of diabetes were inaccurate.
Isyaka also declined to comment on how his father’s body was recovered from the kidnappers for burial, saying he had no information on the matter.
“When I announced the time for my father’s funeral prayer, many people began asking how the body was recovered. I told them I did not know and that they should direct such questions to the government,” he said.
The conflicting accounts have raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of the retired military officer, whose abduction had sparked widespread concern in Katsina State and beyond.
