Fubara Impeachment: He believes he’s above Rivers State-LP Chairman, Dokubo chides Wike, loyalists

The Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has called for calm amid the ongoing impeachment plot against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging political actors to prioritize peace and development over personal interests.

The Rivers State Chairman of the party, Mrs. Hilda Dokubo, made the appeal on Thursday in Port Harcourt after an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stakeholders’ meeting.

Dokubo described the impeachment notice recently issued against Governor Fubara as a needless distraction that could derail governance and stall development in the state.

According to her, Rivers State is only beginning to recover after six months of emergency rule characterized by instability, hardship, and minimal development, stressing that renewed political tension would only worsen the situation.

“The only person who serves a governor an impeachment notice is someone who believes he is above the state,” Dokubo said referring to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike and his Rivers Assembly loyalists.

“I am disturbed and disappointed that Rivers is being dragged back into turmoil just as it is emerging from months of instability.”

She urged political leaders and stakeholders to stop actions capable of creating further distractions and instead focus on improving the welfare and security of Rivers residents.

“This is our only home. If there is no peace here, we cannot sleep, work, or keep our children safe. Nobody wants that,” she stated.

Dokubo commended four members of the State House of Assembly who reportedly reconsidered their support for the impeachment notice, calling on other lawmakers to emulate them.

She also called for a lasting and inclusive resolution to the political crisis, warning that so-called “political solutions” often deepen divisions and create long-term problems for the state.

“Let us live in peace. Let Governor Fubara do his work and complete it, now that we are beginning to see governance,” Dokubo added.
