A fire outbreak on Saturday afternoon destroyed four out of five residential blocks at a property belonging to a former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Yerima, in Asokoro, Abuja.
The incident occurred at a compound on Nelson Mandela Street, where the affected buildings comprise three-bedroom flats. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated from solar panels mounted on the roof of one of the blocks before spreading to nearby structures.
Confirming the development, the Head of Public Affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, said the incident was reported at about 1:00 p.m.
Quoting the Head of FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team, Monday Addie, Isa stated that no lives were lost in the fire. However, four of the five blocks were completely destroyed.
She added that several personal belongings, including furniture, clothing, food items and other household effects, were consumed by the blaze.
Emergency personnel from FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the FCT Police Command responded swiftly and were able to contain the fire, preventing further damage.
