Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted his side were unfortunate not to claim all three points after being held to a 1–1 draw by Brentford on Thursday night, a result that saw the Gunners miss the chance to keep a six-point cushion at the top of the Premier League.
Arsenal went ahead when Noni Madueke nodded the visitors in front, but the Bees hit back through Keane Lewis-Potter to ensure the points were shared.
Late in the game, Gabriel Martinelli had a clear opportunity to snatch a winner, but his close-range effort was kept out by goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
Speaking after the match, Arteta said the decisive moment simply did not fall Arsenal’s way, noting that Martinelli’s one-on-one chance came close but ultimately did not go in.
The Spaniard also stressed that the title race remains demanding, insisting his team must continue to focus on their own performances. He added that winning consistently requires top-level displays every week, especially in tough away fixtures, along with a measure of good fortune to secure maximum points.
“We had a massive chance in the end, one-v-one for Gabriel Martinelli but it wasn’t meant to be.
“We have to do our job and come to all these places like the rest of the teams.
“You have to be at your best every game and have the luck as well you need in games to conquer the three points each week.”
