Electricity distribution companies (Discos) have announced the gradual restoration of power supply across parts of their franchise areas following Monday’s collapse of the national grid.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) disclosed this in separate statements posted on X late Monday night.
The national grid collapsed at about 2:00 pm on Monday, throwing many parts of the country into darkness. However, hours later, operators confirmed that restoration efforts had commenced.
By midnight, electricity allocated to Discos had risen to 3,411 megawatts, a sharp increase from about 50 megawatts recorded at the point of the collapse.
Confirming the development, AEDC said power supply was being progressively restored across its franchise area following improved energy availability from the national grid.
“Further to our earlier notice regarding loss of supply from the national grid, we wish to inform you that energy availability has improved. As a result, power supply has been progressively restored across parts of our franchise area. Restoration efforts are ongoing to ensure full stabilization,” the company said.
Similarly, Port Harcourt Disco advised its customers that feeders were being restored gradually.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that Monday’s incident marks the fourth national grid collapse recorded in Nigeria in 2025.
