Troops of Operation Hadin Kai has successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist assault on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed that the attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, when insurgents attempted to overrun the Brigade Headquarters of the 29 Task Force Brigade.
According to the military, soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat and abandon their mission. Authorities described the failed assault as an indication of desperation by terrorist groups following recent setbacks in ongoing operations across the North-East.
Despite the successful defense, the military confirmed that some personnel lost their lives during the encounter. The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen troops and extended condolences to their families.
The Armed Forces stated that additional details would be released after the next of kin of the deceased have been duly informed. It also urged the public to ignore unverified reports circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, clearance operations are ongoing in the area to pursue fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping. The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the fight against terrorism and called on citizens to support security agencies with credible intelligence.
