Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has stirred controversy after ordering a couple out of his concert in Denver, United States, on Wednesday night for allegedly sleeping during his live performance.
In a viral video from the event, Burna Boy halted his performance midway after spotting the couple seated in the front row, appearing disinterested.
“When I stand up here and see you over there with your girl sleeping in front of me, it pisses me the fk off. So please, take her the fk home. Walahi, I’m not performing another song till you go home,” Burna Boy said angrily.
The male fan initially hesitated, but the crowd began chanting for the pair to leave, prompting the couple—especially the visibly embarrassed lady—to exit the venue. The singer then resumed his performance to cheers from the audience.
The incident has triggered mixed reactions online. While some fans defended Burna Boy’s insistence on maintaining energy at his shows, others criticised him for disrespecting paying concertgoers.
This is not the first time Burna Boy has drawn backlash over his treatment of fans. He previously kicked a starstruck male fan off stage during a Lagos concert and once stopped a show to eject an attendee who wasn’t dancing.
