Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened as the former governor was returning from Orieagu in the Ehime Mbano area of the state.
But, It was unclear whether he was going to his house at Okohia in Isiala Mbano or Owerri, the state capital. Still, eyewitnesses said when the shooters could not get him, they hit the backup vehicle conveying the police and set it on fire.
The action of the attackers led to the death of four of his police orderlies.
