Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The two African giants faced off on Sunday evening in a keenly contested quarter-final encounter.
Cameroon took the lead in the 19th minute through a stunning free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen.
The Super Falcons pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to break down the Cameroonian defence.
Despite their efforts to level the score and force the game into extra time, Justine Madugu’s side failed to find the back of the net.
The defeat means Nigeria will not defend the WAFCON title they won against Morocco in the previous edition.
The Super Falcons will, however, face South Africa on Thursday in Casablanca, with a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoff Tournament at stake.
