Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have launched another deadly attack on Otobi-Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving at least four people dead and several others missing.
According to DAILY POST, the assailants reportedly stormed the community around midnight on Tuesday, firing gunshots indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee their homes in fear. Witnesses said the attackers were heavily armed and operated for hours before retreating.
Those killed in the assault were identified as Hon. Ochi Ayedu, Eje Uzu, Alinko and Achibi. As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of some residents remain unknown, raising concerns that the casualty figure could rise.
The latest attack comes barely months after Otobi-Akpa suffered a similar invasion in which no fewer than 13 people were killed, several others injured or declared missing, and over 50 houses destroyed.
Residents have once again called on security agencies and the Benue State Government to urgently step up protection of lives and property in the area, amid growing fears of repeated attacks.
