BREAKING: Nigerian Senator, Akwashiki is dead

The Senator representing Nasarawa North, Godiya Akwashiki, has passed away at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness.

A family source, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Akwashiki died at a hospital in India on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

The source described the senator’s death as a major loss to the constituency, noting that it has created a significant vacuum due to his strong commitment to grassroots development and empowerment initiatives across the senatorial zone.

According to the source, Akwashiki was widely regarded as one of the most impactful senators the zone has produced, citing his leadership style and the spread of constituency projects across communities.

“His projects can be found in virtually every part of the constituency, and he remains the only senator from the zone to be re-elected for a second term,” the source said.

Akwashiki was first elected into the Nigerian Senate in 2019. Prior to that, he served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he held positions as Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker.

He was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
