The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, was absent on Thursday as Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, inaugurated the State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
The inauguration saw the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, installed as Chairman of the council.
Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde clarified that the chairmanship of the council is guided strictly by state law, which provides for a rotational leadership every two years.
According to him, the rotation was not influenced by any individual but is a statutory requirement. “It is not the one who proposed the law that determines the rotation of the chairmanship every two years,” Makinde said.
The development comes amid reports of a strained relationship between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Recently, a video circulating online sparked claims that the Alaafin was snubbed by the Olubadan at a public event. However, the Olubadan has since dismissed the allegation, insisting that no disrespect was intended.
