Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as lacking credibility as an opposition platform, describing it instead as a group driven by a quest for political power.
Speaking on the state of opposition politics in Nigeria, the former minister of aviation said the ADC is populated by individuals he believes are discredited and incapable of contributing meaningfully to national development. He added that the country’s opposition space has effectively collapsed.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Fani-Kayode argued that opposition parties have failed in their core responsibility of holding the government accountable, blaming internal divisions and persistent conflicts for their weakness.
He faulted opposition leaders for engaging in infighting rather than presenting a united front, noting that their lack of coordination has diminished their effectiveness.
“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party. I see them as an association of people that are desperate for power — individuals that are discredited and have no hope of moving this nation forward. The opposition has collapsed in Nigeria,” he wrote.
