Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he could defeat President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi of Nigeria Democratic Congress and Atiku Abubakar of African Democratic Congress in a free and fair presidential election if he decided to venture into politics.
The singer, however, stressed that he has no immediate plans to contest for public office, citing what he described as the lack of transparency in Nigeria’s electoral system.
Davido made the remarks during a recent livestream with streamer Carter Efe, where he said he would rather focus on his music career until the country’s electoral process becomes more credible.
When asked whether he would like to govern a state, Davido dismissed the idea, expressing distrust in the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
“Nigeria wey dem dey write result? I no get time for all those ones. Because I no be all those ones wey you go cheat me, I go go sleep for house. I will do something to you if you cheat me.
“Let me just focus on my music until there is transparency, then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions. Nobody can beat me in any election, never! In a free and fair election, I can win the presidential election in Nigeria.
“But because of the system, there is no transparency; they write results. I am waiting to see what they will do in the upcoming Osun governorship election. We are wailing,” he said.
