Love died since 2000, marriages no longer work – Nigerian singer Tekno

Nigerian singer, Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has claimed that love has not been the same since 2020, attributing the shift to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Speaking during a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, the Pana hitmaker said the prolonged period couples spent together during the lockdown made many people realise they were no longer in love with their partners.

According to him, the experience left many people emotionally fatigued, leading to a decline in relationships, struggling marriages and a rise in infidelity.

“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. I think during the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised, ‘Maybe I didn’t love this person as much as I think.’ I think we just grew fatigued of the ones we thought we loved the most,” Tekno said.

He added, “If you can’t appreciate the absence then the presence don’t really matter. So, I feel like since 2020, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much. Marriages don’t work. You have some of our legends’ wives being chopped by young boys.”

The singer also lamented what he described as the disappearance of genuine romance from entertainment, arguing that modern films now prioritise social media attention over authentic storytelling.

“There was a time when love was a thing, even our movies revolved around love. But now movies are just clout. It doesn’t feel organic,” he added.
