A cleric of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has claimed that the United States withdrew its troops from Nigeria over concerns about the safety of its personnel.
Speaking during a sermon to his congregation, Dachomo alleged that members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) had infiltrated the Nigerian military, making collaboration with local security agencies risky for foreign forces.
His comments followed the recent announcement by the United States that it had withdrawn its troops deployed for a joint counterterrorism operation in Nigeria.
According to the cleric, the decision was driven by fears that American soldiers could become targets due to alleged security breaches within Nigeria’s military structure.
“Let me tell you, do you know why America left? Listen, American soldiers’ lives were in danger because Boko Haram and ISWAP have taken strategic position in the Nigeria Army and the security of the country,” he said.
He further alleged that the killing of senior military officers by insurgents was aided by “fifth columnists” leaking sensitive information.
“You have seen how many Army Generals are being killed by the insurgents through information of the fifth columnist. The American soldiers will not endanger their life. They are afraid to work with our security. They are afraid because their lives were in danger.
“They will lose soldiers in Nigeria, as we are losing soldiers right now in Nigeria. That’s why they left.
“So, our life is in danger. Defend yourselves when the Boko Haram and ISWAP come to attack you. Let us prepare our ways with God.”
The cleric’s remarks have sparked reactions online following the circulation of the sermon video.
