Again Iran shuts Strait of Hormuz amid Trump-led US peace deal

Iran has once again announced the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, accusing Israel of violating the terms of a US-brokered understanding by carrying out military operations in southern Lebanon.

The decision was announced on Saturday by Iran’s Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters and aired on state television.

According to the military command, vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz has been suspended as an initial response to what Tehran described as a breach of commitments by its adversaries.

“It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic. This first step is a response to the enemy’s breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to compel compliance with its obligations,” the military command stated.

Iran also warned that it could take additional actions should the conflict continue, signalling the possibility of a broader response depending on developments in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the most important shipping routes for global crude oil exports, making any disruption in the waterway a major concern for international energy markets and security observers.
