June 12: ‘Tinubu must Go’ protest hits Wike’s Port Harcourt[Video]

A large number of residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday took to the streets in protest, calling for the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The protesters, predominantly youths, also urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video circulating on social media, the demonstrators were seen and heard chanting, “Get your voter’s card, Tinubu must go,” as they marched through parts of the city.

The protest formed part of a series of demonstrations held across the country to mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration on June 12.

Similar protests were recorded in other major cities, including Lagos and Abuja, where citizens gathered to express concerns over governance, economic hardship and insecurity.

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana and activist Omoyele Sowore were among prominent figures who participated in the EndBadGovernance protests in Lagos and Abuja, respectively, alongside several celebrities and civil society groups.

The demonstrations reflected growing calls from some Nigerians for political reforms and increased civic participation ahead of the next general election cycle.

Nigerian Newssphere reports Port Harcourt, Rivers state is the home to Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
