A social media comment by Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu, recently appointed Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), critical of President Donald Trump has surfaced.
Zuntu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, was appointed on Monday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a four-year term effective April 16, 2026. Her appointment was confirmed in a statement issued by Chris Ugwuegbulam, spokesperson for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
However, checks on her X account revealed that the newly appointed NBMA boss had, on March 30, 2026, reacted sharply to a post by Trump on Iran. Responding to the former US president’s comment via his Truth Social platform, Zuntu wrote, “Whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.”
The remark, now resurfacing in the wake of her appointment.
Zuntu’s appointment itself has continued to draw both praise and criticism.
The NBMA is responsible for regulating modern biotechnology and ensuring the safe handling of genetically modified organisms in Nigeria, placing its leadership at the center of scientific and policy-driven discourse.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that Fatima Zuntu replaced Dr. Agnes Asagbra as the DG of NBMA.
