2027: Saraki dumps Makinde,Turaki for Wike’s PDP camp ahead of convention

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has officially aligned with the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the party’s National Convention scheduled for Sunday in Abuja.

Saraki’s move signals a break from the camp associated with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Taminu Turaki, the embattled factional chairman of PDP.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, Saraki expressed optimism about the convention, saying, “Thank you for all your efforts, for being here. God willing tomorrow will be a success, and Nigerians will begin to see they are on the right side of history. May God bless all of us.”

The development is considered a significant boost for Wike’s faction as the party grapples with internal divisions.

Also backing the convention is former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, further strengthening support for the Wike-led camp.

The PDP remains locked in a leadership crisis, with rival factions contesting control of the party. Despite legal threats and resistance from opposing groups, Wike’s faction has insisted that the convention will proceed as planned.
