30 terrorists’ bodies found as Nigerian troops descend on ISWAP and Boko Haram in Borno[Video]

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralized at least 38 ISWAP terrorists following a failed attack on a military base in Borno State.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

According to the statement, the insurgents launched an assault on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mandaragirau, located in Sector 2 of the state, but were swiftly overpowered by troops.

The military said its personnel responded with a well-coordinated ambush and a deliberate offensive-defensive strategy, forcing the attackers into a chaotic retreat.

It added that the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support during the engagement, enabling precise strikes on the fleeing terrorists.

Further operations along the withdrawal routes reportedly inflicted additional casualties on the insurgents.

“About 38 terrorists were neutralized. Eight bodies were recovered at the scene, while human intelligence indicates that over 30 more bodies and weapons were left scattered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis extending into the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement said.

The military noted that the aftermath of the battle was evident from blood trails and abandoned equipment. Troops also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and various ammunition.

No fatalities were recorded among the troops, although one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit by RPG fire. Injured personnel were promptly treated and stabilized.

The statement added that the heavy losses suffered by the terrorists have sparked celebrations among local communities, underscoring the continued operational success of OPHK forces in restricting insurgent activities in the region.
