A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has stirred reactions after suggesting that the United Kingdom should return to colonize Nigeria.
Galadima made the remark on Thursday during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), while speaking on the current state of the country.
According to him, the government must set aside selfish interests and focus on protecting citizens and creating an enabling environment for them to thrive.
He suggested that authorities could engage foreign mercenaries to address the nation’s security challenges.
“If they cannot bring mercenaries, then they should ask Britain to come back and colonize us again,” Galadima said.
The elder statesman argued that such a move could help sanitize the system, strengthen the rule of law, and promote democratic governance.
He added that it could also help curb corruption and instill discipline in public administration.
