Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has described former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a “fantastic Nigerian” but insisted that he does not have what it takes to become the country’s president.
Melaye made the remark during an interview on Channels Television while speaking about the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, although he holds Obi in high regard, the former Anambra State governor is not the right person to lead Nigeria at the moment.
“But let me even tell you, Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian. I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before, he is a fantastic person, but this is not his time to be president,” Melaye said.
He further argued that before addressing economic challenges, Nigeria must first achieve peace and build trust among its people.
Melaye’s comments come as political discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
The former lawmaker previously contested the Kogi State governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party but lost to the incumbent governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
