Billboard World Albums: Rema breaks Wizkid’s record for longest-charting African album

Nigerian singer Rema has set a new milestone on the Billboard World Albums Chart, as his debut album Rave & Roses reaches 170 weeks on the chart—the longest run ever by an African project.

The album overtakes the previous record held by Wizkid’s Made In Lagos, which logged 164 weeks before being surpassed last year.

Other African projects with notable longevity on the chart include Tems’ Born In The Wild (79 weeks), Burna Boy’s Love, Damini (63 weeks), and Fela Kuti’s The Best Of The Black President (45 weeks).

Meanwhile, Rema also secured his second entry on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, as Secondhand—a collaboration with Don Toliver—debuted at No. 29.

In a similar feat, Tems debuted her new song What You Need on the Hot 100, bringing her total chart entries to seven. The tally ties the African record jointly held with Burna Boy and South African rock group Seether.
