The embattled former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has launched a fresh attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of assuming that all public officials are corrupt.
El-Rufai made the remarks on Friday while speaking during Prime Time, a program aired on Arise Television. He alleged that the current administration is desperate and determined to silence or bring down anyone perceived as an opponent.
His comments followed an attempt by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him on Thursday, a development that has continued to generate nationwide reactions.
According to El-Rufai, the administration believes others behaved in government the same way it has. He claimed he has been under investigation since June 2023 without any incriminating findings.
“They have investigated me since June 2023 and found nothing. My former Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Finance have been arrested, while nearly all my senior officials have been interrogated and charged to court on what I consider frivolous allegations, yet nothing has been proven,” he said.
El-Rufai further accused his successor, Uba Sani, of enabling the actions against him.
He also maintained his innocence, stating that throughout his years in public service, he never received any form of bribe.
“I served in public office from 1999 to 2007. I challenge any Nigerian to come forward and show that I ever took a single bribe while in office,” he added.
