Atletico Madrid surged into a commanding position in their Copa del Rey semi-final after a dominant 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg on Thursday night.
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was central to the rout, scoring once and providing an assist as the hosts overwhelmed the Catalans in front of their home supporters.
Lookman, who opened his Atletico scoring account during a 5-0 quarter-final win over Real Betis, continued his fine form on the big stage.
The breakthrough came via an Eric Garcia own goal, setting the tone for a one-sided contest. A composed finish from Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead before Lookman struck to make it 3-0.
The Nigerian winger then turned provider, teeing up Julian Alvarez to cap a memorable night for Diego Simeone’s side.
The return leg is scheduled for March 3 at the Camp Nou.
In the other semi-final first leg played on Wednesday, Real Sociedad edged Athletic Bilbao 1-0 away from home.
