Arsenal’s advantage at the top of the Premier League standings was reduced to four points on Thursday night after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford.
The Gunners went into the match aware that Manchester City had narrowed the gap with a dominant 3-0 victory over Fulham a day earlier, increasing the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.
It turned out to be a difficult outing for Arsenal at the Gtech Community Stadium, where they struggled to assert themselves and failed to record a shot on target in the second half.
Noni Madueke gave Arsenal the lead shortly after the restart, heading in a cross delivered by Piero Hincapie. However, Brentford responded swiftly, with Keane Lewis-Potter equalizing for the hosts 10 minutes later.
Both teams pushed for a winner in an open and intense closing spell, but neither could find the decisive goal, as the match ended level and Arsenal settled for a point.
