Transfer: Saudi Arabian Govt issues strong warning to Ronaldo over protest

The Saudi Pro League has issued a firm warning to Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo following reports of his frustration over the club’s lack of signings during the January transfer window.

Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr in 2023, is reportedly unhappy that the club failed to strengthen the squad, a situation believed to have influenced his recent absence from one league match. Reports also suggest the Portuguese star is considering skipping Friday’s high-profile clash against Al-Ittihad.

Reacting to the situation, the Saudi Pro League on Thursday stressed that no player, regardless of status or reputation, can influence decisions beyond their own club.

In a statement, the league said all teams operate independently within the same financial and regulatory framework.

“The Saudi Pro League is built on a simple idea: every club works independently but follows the same rules,” the statement read.

It added that while Ronaldo’s desire to win is understandable, transfer and operational decisions remain the sole responsibility of individual clubs.

“Like any top player, he wants to win. But no one, not even a superstar, can decide what happens outside their own team,” the league said.
