Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast held on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
During his remarks at the event, President Trump publicly acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu, describing her as “a very respected woman,” and invited her to stand, drawing applause from the audience.
Trump also highlighted her dual role as a national leader and a Christian pastor, noting that she serves at what he described as the largest church in Nigeria.
“We’re honored to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, a very respected woman,” Trump said.
Mrs. Tinubu attended the prayer breakfast alongside political leaders, religious figures, and business executives from different parts of the world.
In recent times, the United States government has expressed concerns over security and religious freedom issues in Nigeria.
Speaking further at the event, President Trump condemned the violence faced by Christians in the country, warning against attacks on religious communities.
“When Christians come under attack, they know they’re going to be attacked violently and viciously by President Trump. I know it’s not a nice thing to say, but that’s the way it is,” he stated.
