The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, describing him as an “intelligent tax collector” whose primary focus is on increasing government revenue through taxation.
Adebayo claimed that the current administration has failed to improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians, insisting that only those working within government circles appear to be benefiting from Tinubu’s policies.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the SDP chieftain alleged that the president’s approach to governance is heavily centered on taxation.
According to him, “President Tinubu is an intelligent tax collector.” He plans to start charging you taxes on everything, even a tax for the oxygen you breathe, really soon.
“If you’re not cautious, then yes, the air we breathe. Just be patient with him; he will get there in his own time.
“The truth is that no one is better off except for those who work in the government.
“I understand that my life isn’t any better, and neither are the lives of my neighbors.”
Adebayo’s remarks come amid growing public debate over recent tax reforms and economic measures introduced by the Tinubu administration as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election begin to gather momentum.
