Wike suspends education mandate secretary after false school closure notice

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has suspended its mandate secretary, Dr Danlami Hayyo after false school closure notice.

This comes as the Nyesom Wike-led Federal Capital Territory Administration dismissed reports of public school closures in the nation’s capital.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday clarifying reports of school closures over insecurity.

The statement said the Acting Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been mandated to discipline the Director of School Services, Mrs Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in accordance with the civil service rules.

He described the report of the early closure of schools as false and misleading; the administration urged parents, students, and school authorities to dismiss the rumour, stressing that the approved academic calendar remained unchanged.

“The FCTA also assured residents of the FCT, especially students, of adequate security, adding that the minister has directed the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security initiatives in the federal capital,” the statement reads.

The development amid viral reports that FCT has shut down public schools over heightened nationwide insecurity.

Recall that there has been a surge in associated abduction in Kebbi, Niger and Kwara states.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Nigerian Newssphere reports that Kwara and Kebbi states’ abductees have been released, confirmed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
