Ademola Lookman etched his name into the record books after finding the net in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Barcelona at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night.
With his goal, Lookman became only the fourth Nigerian to score in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Obafemi Martins was the first to achieve the milestone, scoring for Inter Milan against Villarreal in 2006. Samuel Chukwueze followed with his goal for Villarreal against Bayern Munich in 2022.
A year later, Victor Osimhen joined the exclusive list after scoring for Napoli in their clash with AC Milan.
Lookman will now be aiming to take the next step by joining Finidi George and Martins among the Nigerians who have scored in the competition’s semi-finals.
