Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently hospitalised in France.
Sowore made the allegation on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
He was reacting to President Tinubu’s prolonged absence from Nigeria after the president had initially travelled abroad for an official three-week engagement.
According to Sowore, some of the president’s recent public appearances were allegedly staged to conceal a serious health condition.
He drew comparisons with the situations surrounding the prolonged absences of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari when they were receiving medical treatment abroad.
“Reliable sources have said Tinubu is undergoing treatment in France. Those once-in-a-while appearances are designed to fool the public.
“They use the same language they used when Yar’Adua and Buhari were sick and in the hospital for a long time, saying the president can govern from anywhere.
“I’ve been in the US for the last two weeks, and I was also monitoring what was happening at the United Nations General Assembly.
“Tinubu is hospitalised in France. I don’t know what ailment it is because we don’t have those details, and that is why they have not discharged him from the hospital,” Sowore said.
Sowore did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation or disclose the identity of the sources he referred to.
