Summary of top headlines from Nigerian Newspapers today, Saturday July 20

Good morning! Here are five top headlines from Nigerian Newspapers today;

1. Nigeria’s three tiers of government, Federal, State and Local governments shared N1.818 trillion revenue for June from the Federation Account and Allocation Committee.

2. Half of the current 36 state governors -18 – are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the anti-graft agency’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Olukoyede spoke during a sensitization programme for movie producers, musicians and bureau de change operators, in Lagos.

3. The African Democratic Congress has described the recent appointment of IBB’s son and other northerners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “desperate attempt to buy back the trust that he has squandering over a year, particularly in Northern Nigeria.” In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC dismissed the appointments as “too little, too late,”

4. The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a planned political rally by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, which was scheduled to hold in honour of his birthday.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the Command said that the rally could be infiltrated by criminal elements intending to cause violence and disrupt public order.

5. The Plateau State Government has demanded the withdrawal of military personnel from flashpoints, calling for deployment of mobile police personnel in the area. This follows recent attacks in villages in Riyom Local Government Area, where 27 persons were killed.
