President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told Nigerians that an effective identification system is paramount to the successful delivery of its Eight Points agenda to Nigerians.
Tinubu represented by the Secretary of the Federation, Senator George Akume, disclosed this while speaking at the 2024 National Identity Day organized by the National Identity Management Commission on Monday in Abuja.
He stressed the importance of digital identity in Nigeria.
According to him, the developmental initiatives of Tinubu will amount to nothing without an adequate reliable identification system.
“We come together today not just to celebrate this day but to recognize the fundamental right of every citizen in Nigeria and across the globe to have unique verifiable proof of identity.
“Our administration’s 8-point agenda, which includes food security, ending poverty, economic growth and job creation, access to capital, improving security, enhancing the business environment, upholding the rule of law, and fighting corruption, is intrinsically linked to the success of our digital identity initiatives. By leveraging DPI, we can streamline service delivery, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and ensure that government programs reach those who need them most”, the President stated.
Earlier, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Director General of NIMC,
Abisoye Coker-Odusote said that Nigeria is the right path to the effective harmonization of identification.
