Dangote wins as NMDPRA Boss Farouk Ahmed resigns amid allegations

The president of Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, has recorded a major victory following the resignation of the chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

Ahmed’s resignation came less than 24 hours after Dangote publicly leveled allegations against him, including claims that $5 million was paid for the education of his children.

In a related development, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe, has also stepped down from office.

The resignations were confirmed on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has already nominated replacements for both regulatory agencies.

According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has forwarded the names of the nominees to the Senate, requesting their swift confirmation.

“To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking expedited approval of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as Chief Executive Officer of the NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA,” the statement read.

Onanuga added that the nominees are seasoned professionals with extensive experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
